In Psalm 110:1, it is written The Lord said to my Lord sit thou at my right hand – or is it? The etymology of these enigmatic words should most certainly beckon us to explore their actual meaning and significance.
Is the translation of God’s name the Lord? Is Psalm 110:1 the inspired word of God or a purposeful mistranslation?
- This Christian author (click HERE) claims that in English, Yahweh is translated as Lord due to a tradition in Judaism. He goes on to say that Jesus Christ now bears the name Yahweh.
Names can only be transliterated from the original language to another, with the sound of the original name carried over to the new language; the name of Yahweh does not sound anything like the word lord.
The translation in Philippians 2:9-10 states that God gives Jesus, who is also God, a name above all others, to which every knee shall bow.
If the true Savior is God (Isa 43:10, 44:6), and He existed before Abraham (John 8:58), how could it be said that God named him Jesus? Moreover, what was his name before Abraham was born?
According to Luke 2:21, an angel named Jesus before he was conceived. This contradicts what has been penned in Philippians 2:9-10.
Matthew 1:21 is also a contradiction according to what is written in Matthew 1:23, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Psa 148:13 Let them praise the name of Yahweh, for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven
Rev 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Yahweh, and glorify thy name because thou alone art holy, for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest
Yahweh declared “unto me, every knee shall bow” (Isa 45:21-23). It would be impossible to kneel before Yahweh and Jesus.
Psa 95:6 O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before Yahweh our maker
Interpreting the LORD said unto my Lord
The correct interpretation of Psalm 110:1, which states, “The LORD said to my Lord, sit at my right hand,” changes the entire biblical narrative.
Who are these two Lords penned into Psalm 110:1, and does one Lord sit next to the other?
Does the LORD God speak to the Lord Jesus (who is said to be God), or does Yahweh converse with King David in the Spirit?
- What is the origin of the word lord, and in what context can this word be used?
- Do the meanings of words in the English language evolve?
- If so, is it not a giant leap for an earthly title (lord) to suddenly manifest itself as a replacement for Yahweh’s Holy Name?
Where in His inspired Holy Scriptures do we find Yahweh giving men the authority to replace His name with the title of ‘the Lord’?
What, if any, are the spiritual implications of accepting the mainstream translation of Psalm 110:1?
To find out, let’s examine the context and significance of this verse and uncover the profound truths (hidden) therein.
Who are the two Lords in Psalm 110:1
Psa 110:1 The LORD <H3068> said <H5002> unto my Lord <H113>, Sit thou <H3427> at my right hand <H3225>, until I make <H7896> thine enemies <H341> thy footstool <H1916> <H7272>
The first use of the word LORD in Psa 110:1 represents an impossible transliteration of Yahweh’s name (H3068), which can’t be translated as the lord. The title of lord is for men alone.
The second use of the word “Lord” in Psalm 110:1 (H113) is used to address King David, however, as you will soon see, it is a poor and misleading translation.
- This writer, who subscribes to the tenets of Judaism (click HERE), blames the Christians for translating the second “lord” as if it were sacred.
- He then states that translating the first “LORD” in upper case letters is helpful.
Can we discern the identity of the first LORD in Psalm 110:1 based on which letters are capitalized?
Who is the author of this capitalization concept that is contrary even to the rules of writing mechanics?
Several of the translations given for adon (H113) are lord, master, and sir.
The title of lord (or master) is given to King David and Abraham (2 Sam 24:21, 1 Pet 3:6); it is also used without warrant as a replacement for the name of Yahweh (Deut 10:17).
Psalms 136:3 O give thanks <H3034> to the Lord <H113> of lords <H113>: for his mercy <H2617> endures forever <H5769>
- According to this article, King David overhears a conversation between two persons, the LORD (Yahweh) and the Lord (Adonai) Jesus.
Adonai (H136), also translated as Lord, is yet another fictitious title used to replace the name of Yahweh; adonai is not used to address Jesus.
Psa 30:8 I cried to thee, O LORD (H3068), unto the LORD (H136) I made my supplication
Yahweh’s Glorious name cannot be translated, and yet there are four words – Strongs numbers (H3068 -Yahweh), (H3050 – Yah), (H136 – Adonai), and (H113 – adon) – that are translated as Lord. What is more, they are all used as replacements for the name of Yahweh.
“Two lords is a lot of lords, but four lords, well, that’s just way too many lords.”
Truth be told, in Psalm 110:1, there aren’t any Lords involved in this spiritual conversation. No one can call upon the name of the Lord, but we are instructed to call upon Yahweh.
Those who call upon the name of Yahweh shall be saved (Rom 10:13, Acts 2:21, Joel 2:32).
The Interpretation of the LORD said to my lord
The process of interpreting Psalm 110:1 may begin with understanding transliterations, translations, and context. However, the teaching of Yahweh’s Spirit provides the Spiritual discernment and knowledge necessary to complete this task (Psalm 25:5).
Yahweh makes a Promise to King David, and the first six words of Psalm 110:1, ‘the LORD said unto my Lord’ are correctly translated as ‘Yahweh said unto me.’ Understand that this is David speaking in the first person.
Pro 2:6 For Yahweh giveth wisdom, out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding
This LORD said unto my Lord exposé came not as a result of any wisdom that I have. It is spiritually discerned, and that is the reason why it is profitable unto a deeper understanding of Yahweh’s Gospel (Pro 3:5, 1 Cor 3:19).
Thus says Yahweh, turn unto Me for your Salvation, all ye from the ends of the Earth, for I Am your God and there is no other Savior besides me (Isa 43:11, 45:18-23).
- The one who bears the name of Yahweh is both Savior and Messiah; you will want to gain access to the groundbreaking study guides (listed below) that reveal this profound truth in greater detail.
- If the religions of Judaism and Christianity were ever to embrace this Spiritual truth – the divisions between them would crumble and fall, alongside all of their false manufactured doctrines.
The correct interpretation of Psalm 110 reveals a promise given to King David (in the Spirit) by Yahweh.
Psalm 110:1 Yahweh said to me, thou shall remain, for with my right hand I shall make thine enemies my footstool
Meaning of the Right hand of the Lord
There is no distinction between the LORD, or my Lord. Changing the capitalization of various letters, does not alter the meaning of this title, which is not a name.
The Son, who came forth from the Father, does not sit at the right hand of the Father (Isa 9:6).
King David did not sit at Yahweh’s right hand either; the right hand of Yahweh describes David’s source of power.
If David himself calls his Messiah Yahweh, how can the Messiah be his son (Mar 12:35-37)?
Psa 110:5 The Lord (H136) at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath
- The translation given in Psalm 110:1 represents incredible deception.
- And the mainstream interpretation of this verse represents a lack of spiritual discernment.
- If Jesus sits at the LORD’s right hand in Psalm 110:1, how then does the LORD sit at Jesus’s right hand in Psalm 110:5?
The perplexing part is how someone can believe in the concept of the trinity, where two eternally distinct persons, both given the title of God, can sit next to each other, have a conversation together, and still be considered one God.
Indeed, the mental gymnastics required to justify that thought process is extraordinary (Acts 20:21, 28:31, Rom 1:7, 5:11, Psa 110:1).
Yahweh therefore with His right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath (Psa 110:5).
There are many Lords’ – Yahweh is not one of them
In order to maintain any sense of scriptural integrity, the title of Lord In Matt 3:3, Mark 1:3, Luke 1:76, and Isaiah 40:3, must be replaced with the name of Yahweh.
John the Baptist prepared the way for the arrival of Yahweh who came forth in the person of the Messiah.
Isa 43:11 I, even I Am Yahweh and beside me there is no Savior
Indeed, apart from Yahweh, there is no Savior (Isa 2:17, 43:11. 45:21).
Our Messiah said to Philip, “he that has seen me hath seen the Father, how then do you say show us the Father” (John 14:9). Why this verse remains a parable unto most preachers is indeed puzzling.
This child born unto a virgin is called the mighty God and the everlasting Father; He was never called the Lord.
That Holy Child is God Almighty; He is Yahweh manifest in the flesh (Isa 9:6, 2 Cor 4:4, Col 1:15).
This parable spoken by the Messiah is often overlooked; if I with the finger of Yahweh cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you (Luke 11:20).
The true Messiah can only be the Savior if He is Yahweh. This is not a debatable theory it is a fundamental Spiritual fact according to the Word of Yahweh.
Exo 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god, for Yahweh is jealous of His name, and a jealous God
Isa 42:8 I AM Yahweh that is my name, and my glory shall you not give to another, neither give praise to graven images
